On June 10, 1984, ETA carried out an attack against the Guardia Civil barracks in Elorrio. John Raya, who was on guard duty, was wounded by shrapnel. After recovering from his injuries in Barcelona, Juan Raya returned to Elorrio to complete his one year of service in the Basque Country. Many years later, he has continued to suffer from the psychological consequences of the attack.
In 1968, María Teresa Castells and Ignacio Latierro opened the bookshop, Lagun, in the Old Quarters of San Sebastian. On February 22, 2000, ETA planted a car bomb that killed her father, Fernando Buesa Blanco (general secretary of the PSE-EE in Alava) and his escort, Jorge Díez Elorza, opposite the university campus in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
On October 25, 1986, ETA planted a bomb and killed his sister, Daniela Velasco Domínguez de Vidaurreta, his brother in law, General Rafael Garrido Gil and his nephew, Daniel Garrido Velasco. As a result of the effects of the blast, another 14 people were injured. Among them, the Portuguese citizen, Maria José Teixeira Gonçalves, who died on November 11 from the injuries sustained in the attack.
