Since he opened his shop in 2007 in Cuchillería Street in Vitoria-Gasteiz, where graffiti and posters with slogans supporting radical groups are widespread and visible on the walls of the street, Johan Gilbert has had numerous clashes with radical nationalists in the area. He is currently involved in a lawsuit after reporting death threats he have received.
He´s 27. He begans his political activity when he was 18, when he was elected member of Astigarraga City Council of the Popular Party (Partido Popular). On April 11, 2009, when travelling from Lazcano to San Sebastián by car, he was followed by another car driven by a person wearing a hood.
In the early morning of June 5th, 2009, when he arrived back home from the police station where he was stationed, X found an explosive device on the door of his home that did not explode due to a failure in the triggering mechanism. His wife and two daughters, aged 11 and 13, were inside the house.
